FOUNDING
Long ago, Rootshade, once a loyal warrior of Thunderclan, found himself in opposition to his brother Oakjaw, who had become Oakstar, a leader marked by cruelty and despotism. Fearing for the safety of himself and those who opposed Oakstar's rule, Rootshade made a pivotal decision. Alongside his companions, including Swiftbrook, Sunshadow, Meadowstep, Brambletangle, Owlperch, and later Grove (who would become Grovestalk), Rootshade embarked on a perilous journey in search of a new beginning.
Their journey was fraught with challenges, but it forged a bond among them, a bond that would become the foundation of a new clan. When they discovered a lush, dense forest filled with towering maple trees, they knew they had found their new home. To mark the end of their journey and the start of their new life, Rootshade and his companions raked their claws into the bark of a massive maple tree, an act of claiming and belonging. Rootshade, despite his leadership and vision, never became the official leader of what would be Mapleclan. His humility and respect for the collective will of his group were more significant to him than any title. When Rootshade passed away, his last act was to touch the massive maple tree. In honor of his legacy, his companions named the tree Rootshade, ensuring that his spirit would forever watch over the clan he helped found. Since that momentous day, the sap of the Rootshade tree has shimmered with stars, and the rustling of its leaves has carried the whispers of StarClan. It has become a sacred symbol for Mapleclan, a tangible connection to their ancestors and a reminder of their origins. Now, as part of a revered tradition, when a cat of Mapleclan receives their full name, they perform the ritual of raking their claws into Rootshade. This act, known as "The Claws of Valor," symbolizes their commitment to the clan and their connection to the legacy of Rootshade and the founding members. It's a moment of pride, reflection, and a promise to uphold the values and spirit of Mapleclan. The story of Rootshade and the founding of Mapleclan is a tale passed down through generations, a story of finding light in darkness, of building a new home from the ashes of the old, and of a leader whose legacy is as enduring as the tree that bears his name.
